The CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB) has organized a 1-day workshop on medium-term budgetary frameworks in the EU member states - current practices in the EU, consequences for IFIs and considerations how to improve them further. The workshop took place on 23 March 2016 at the CPB in the Hague, Netherlands.
The speakers on the workshop included Monika Sherwood (EC), Chiara Goretti (Italy), Seppo Orjasniemi (Finland), Arpád Kovács (Hungary), Wim Suyker and Eugene Verkade (CPB) and Trevor Shaw (OECD).
The EUIFIs discussed that the bulk of the improvement in MTBF practice must come from solutions at the Member State level, and that national IFIs also have a relevant role in promoting a medium-term approach to fiscal policy. There is, however, room for action at the European level to provide impetus for national-level dialogues and initiatives concerning MTBFs.
